I agree with movingout2013 - Parkchester is a lost cause. Im a long-time resident here as well and I've seen how it has deteriorated no matter how much they try to fix the outward appearance of the area. Management has become beyond poor ('poor' would be a compliment at this point) and the most unhelpful in situation where it is clearly their duty to help (e.g. Maintenance, fixing structural issues, noise complaint, etc.). They always require you to take time out of work for them to do work within the apartment, which is rediculous if you have a major repair job - they really expect you to take DAYS off scattered around their already ridiculous schedule... Or give you the option to let them in the house while your busy at work - AS IF!!! And their office hours are ridiculously inconvenient for anyone who works in Manhattan well past 5pm. Least of all is the quality of people they have let in during my tenure here. Twice I have had to endure neighbors involved in illegal activity (prostitution and hard drugs) or neighbors with no respect for their floormates (loud music all times of the day, hollering about and so on). It's a pathetic way to run an area that has the potential to be the Stuyvesant Town of the Bronx. The screening process to become a tenant is clearly a joke. And for those reasons, I'd encourage you to go forth with your plans break your lease. I am doing the same this year as well. Glad I'm not the only one who's fed up.

I will be doing the same thing this Summer 2013 and guess what, I don't care anymore. There is a $1,500 fee when you break the lease. So my advice to you is save up so that when you do break the lease, you will have the money ready to shove in their face (because that's exactly what I'm going to do this coming Summer). I've had it with living here. And yes, theywill most likely keep the security deposit, but I dont care about that either. All I care about is getting the hell out of here. I renewed the lease, but after security harassed me for no apparent reason, I am definitely getting out of here and moving to a better place soon. As far as the paint is concerned, if you didn't paint it some crazy color, then you're probably okay. Just leave the apartment in "good condition" so that they won't complain too much about it in the end. Good Luck! =)

If I wanted to break the lease, in Parkchester, before it is up what are the penalties ?and what would I have to pay? Also what it you painted what will happen with the security deposit will they keep it all or will they just take that money and use it towards breaking the lease and then ask for more since we painted? How do we go about doing all this?
